| Sounds like the selector cables might need adjusting | |

| I agree with cable but these boxes are renowned for letting go, they tend to self destruct rather than mess around. | |

| Hi, I've got a very similar problem, first is very difficult to engage, even when at a compelte hault and you've taken your foot off the clutch and put it back down to trya again and its a very sticky shift, the same can be said when changing down into second sometimes. Reverse also makes a bit of a crunch. The problem seems to get worse as the car gets warmer... If it's any help the car is @ 95,000 and has had a new clutch fitted by VW about 40,000 ago. I've been reading that this could be tower selector, gearbox oil, syncromesh or thrust bearing... after reading your advice here though it could also be the cable selector!
Is there any way to narrow those options down a bit, or could it literally be any of the above?
*Last note - the bite point for the clutch is near the floor and the clutch seems to be overly firm, getting firmer towards the floor - not sure if this can be adjusted? | |
