| fixed it today for the time being topped up with ltr and half of gearbox oil sorted most of te problem so fingers crossed it holds | |

The shaft going into the gearbox from the clutch - also known as a spigot shaft. Theve got a oil seal round them, if your having the box off to check the clutch out it will be worth checking it, you will smell it if youve got gearbox oil in the bell housing. Mk4 polos also suffer from the oil seal round the gearlinkage enters the box, worth a look if its lost oil | |

| If you had to put 1.5litre of oil in sounds like some of the bearings have got dry. Is the whine worst in 5th? Gearboxes are common problems with 6Ns. | |
