| Hi all I've got a mk2 8v gti and it's been running a bit sh1te lately. Well on friday i put some diesel in it (doh!) but put some more petrol in and it runs ok. For some reason now though if I floor it through a couple of gears a massive cloud of smoke comes out and it leaves a big oily patch under the bonnet, any ideas? | |

| well the smoke is most probably from the diesel not burning. Did you drain the diesel out before refilling with petrol? | |

| Go burn all the fuel in ya car mate then fill up with some super unleaded.
The higher octane of the super will even out whats left in your tank. | |

| I've ran it out of petrol/diesel this morning, filled it with a can and its running ok, very smooth. But it still bellows smoke everytime i take it to redline? I started putting 97/98 in it, but then i put diesel in lol. I shall fill it up with 98 later on today lol. | |

| Found this on the GolfGti forum: - Quote :
- Right then lads, the oak green valver is fixed
First of all thanks for all the advice and pointers.
This is what I found/did,
1.Checked my oil level, it was still over the max so I drained off about a litre which left it just below the max line. 2. Started her up and she still smoked - but only a bit 3. Took the air filter off and all the air ducting - found that all of it was covered in oil, you could scoop it out the air box!!! 4. Took the little grey idle thing out and oil just poured out !! - This would explain my constant reving problem !!! 5. Gave everything a good clean with a bit carb cleaner and put it back together.
Reved it and took it for a spin all fixed
It looks like it was almost defiantly caused by over filling the oil, causing it to go through breather pipe and in to the air intake !
So remember never over fill your oil ! This guy experienced similer problems to me so I'm gunna give this a bash on the weekend, if i've got time lol. Also another fella gave me this advice: - Quote :
- Do what he did and check the oil level. But if you have oil all over the engine as well, I would suspect crank case compression. That is caused by one of two things. Oil breather blocked, or you have a piston issue which would cause low compression.
Clean out your oil breather system, and if the problem does not go away, remove the spark plugs and see which one is oily. Do a compression test and go from there.
