Ok, so I've been meaning to buy myself an induction-cone heat-shield for my 328i for a while.
There were a couple of them floating about on eBay but they seem to have been snaffled up.

Basically, I need someone who can cut sheet metal for me.
If they can weld it together too then that would be a bonus, but not essential.
I can get hold of the metal, but i'm A) Useless with a saw/drill, B) don't have a clue what i'd be doing, and C) would probably end up losing a limb.

Here's a picture of the dimensions that i'd need the metal cut into...

I was thinking of buying myself a couple of sheets of aluminium around 20" x 20" for the front and side.
Also a piece around "20 x 10" for the bottom piece. This gives enough room for error.

I'll be making a cardboard template up this evening to get the rounded section right so it mates up against the inner wall of the engine bay.

So... anyone think they could do this for me?
And would aluminium be the right material to use?

I could do it, but can't weld aluminium with my tig so stainless would be better, got some mirrored plate here too but its probly a bit heavy. Mild steel would do if you painted it

Would stainless or mild steel be good at keeping the heat at bay?
I don't really wanna pick a metal that'll absorb the heat, more one that'll reflect it.

I've got nothing to do today so i'm gonna make up a template out of cardboard and see how it fits.
Then if anyone fancies cutting out and welding some metal up for me (for a couple of pints?) I can see if it works.

stainless would reflect heat better than ally. That would absorb heat more than any of the other metals. Carbon would be your best bet.
