1970, bug needs a little tidying :(

so this is her home of the last 8 years

so she was shipped over to me

thats as far as i am at the mo.

as you can see, she's up and running and drives happily, after 8 or so years just a little fresh petrol, 2 pumps of gas and a good battery and she's running, well chuffed

looking good . the buggie has just sat in that spot for 8 years :|?

looks like a fairly decent base! ive fixed much worse than that! whats the plans for it?

oh and ill pull a door off mine soon as i get a chance!

well plans are:
fix rust for mot (so i can use it)
clean full white/cream interior
get all external chrome (and steering wheel) powder coated cream/white

i have some early "55" american (call look) wings, ones with bullet indicators from factory.
and today i sourced some americam "rossi" headlights for the slope wings

paint and slam!

did notice the cream insides! very nice. 55 wings dont have indicators. i was gonna fiot early stuff to mine when i first got it then decided to leave it as i like the fact its all o.g. love the headlights. looking for a set of genuine ones for the misses 55 oval.

if you need any help slammin it give me a shout. i can do anything needed for slammin, even narrowed beams.

uk spec 55 wings don't have indicators, but the americans (apparently) out lawed the the infront of the headlight as you can't see them, and so vw fitted round bullet type ones to the side of the wing.

i went to see a mate of mine who as it turns out, used to restore beetles and busses, he has loads of original vag stuff in his shed, literally stacked to the roof. i'll be going over soon to help him sort it all out and bag some cool goodies

Yes I got it.

Beetle looks like a challenge. You can get repair panels for most of a beetle. Red and cream interior 1200 is cool.

well if you need a hand clearing it out let me know! im always on the hunt for little treasures! lol

and so i continue to wash and remove items,

firstly, the seat belts i removed and cleaned. came up quite well considering how dirty they were to start with:




then the bonnet and petrol tank out, tank is clean as a whistle inside and it's genuine vag so thats a good start:


then i swept the insides and wiped with a damp cloth, i'm pretty happy with the condition to be honest:






and these bits are coming home with me for cleaning:


i've also been removing the boot and bonnet rubber seal grooves, glad i did too! rust under there waiting to come out after i'd finished was a fair bit.

next time i'll be taking a wire wheel to the car as i work across the whole lower half!

once again i've been back at it, thought i'd tackle the worst part of the whole car so that i might start collecting the panels i need to repair as i do the rest of the car.

after removing nearly half inch thick filler from the lower foot of the rear quater it looked like this:

and i also had a poke it the wheels i have to go on, so now she looks like this:

ok, so decided that i'm only going to do this bug once,

in making this decision the following actions had to be taken.

first we start with a picture from the end.

This is me at the end of the day:


And this is the action that made me end up looking like that:


these are the floor pans waiting to be replaced just as soon as the new ones get here and i've taught myself to weld! oh and brought a welder.





and while i'm waiting i'll be cracking on with tidying stuff a bit like this:

now it's all clean ready for rust proof and paint, but i didn't have a paint brush. lol
