| You would thinking getting older has it's benefits!
Just quoting for a 1.3 polo gt lowered 40(ish)mm worth about £500 for insurance and the insurance quotes i am getting are more expensive than what i was quoted for the Jetta fully comp with everything declared at over 300bhp!
It is utter madness! the cheapest i have been quoted so far is £530!!!!! have tried confused.com, one from the polo forum and Adrian Flux.
Seriously what is the world coming to!
Sorry rant over... | |

| That will be down to your choice of car though surely?
For example my van is insured for £8k and i pay less than £300 a year for insurance...the jetta will be insured with everything declared and at over 300bhp including nitrous and will cost less than the polo.
It just doesn't make sense. I could understand if i was 18 with no no claims and i wanted to insure the car. I paid £1300 my first year for a 998cc mini...but you expect it to drop as you get older.

Charlie- you seriously pay that much third party Insurance is a joke, I should know! Plus ive had some mental quotes recently while ve been car hunting, some are insane and others make no sense at all! And Charlie, you must be mad to pay that for TPF&F - have you not shopped about as that is about twice what i'd expect to pay!

| I pay 118 a month for my mk2, all mods declared and fully comp and I'm nearly 20 with 2 years NCB.
Which is pretty good considering my first car when I was 18 was 2500 for the year and it was a 1.1 saxo!!!

| There are a lot of other factors that come into this too. Postcodes play a big part in how much you'll be paying.
As does how long you keep them on the phone for.

How do they work that one out its based on claim stats, think about it, some jobs are clearly going to be higher risk than others - if you work as a barman for example you are more likely to be driving home late at night (higher risk) while possibly more likely to be tired and your car is going to be parked where there are often drunk people when you are at work. Students as another example tend to be young drives etc who may not have as much money to maintain their cars etc hence have more claims. Other occupations work in your favour such as some proffesional drivers, many "white coller" occupations and of course insurance staff tends to help

As does how long you keep them on the phone for. This is also very true, postcode can play a massive part. How long you keep then on the phone does not....but how you are on the phone might though, remember if you are speaking to someone and you are nice on the phone may try harder and go that extra mile to get you a deal than someone who is rude as they may think just get them off the phone and move on to the next call....

Sorry rant over... Did you try us Mike? PM me the details and i will take a look when im back in tomorrow. Other factors that may play a part are things such as value etc - the Jetta would certainly qualify for classic insurance but a £500 Polo might not even if its old enough(some insurers actually charge more for low value cars or set minimum values on classic policies etc as they only want Classic/cherished cars not just "old" cars that only qualify due to their age!).
