I have a Mk4 Golf GT TDI 110 and over the past couple of months ive noticed a strange whistling noise. Its not constant and there isnt a particular time it does it. It will stop if i push on the brakes and seems to only happen when im going straight. I thought it could be wind being channelled some where so when i brake the nose dips a bit changing the angle (ive got a headlight washer jet cover missing so there is a hole in the bumper). I dont know enough about cars to be able to pinpoint the problem.

Anyone have an idea what it could be?

Any help would be appreciated Thumbs up

Chris

If it goes when you use the brakes when its making the noise it sounds like something is possibly sticking on the brakes.

well i've had a quick look at the brakes on both mine and a mates mk4 and from what i can tell there isn't any differences. Will probably have to take them all apart and have a better look.

Any other possibilities?

Mine also does this, but it's a high pitched ringing noise.

Farking annoying but the rear brakes on these mk4's are easy to remove and whatnot.

We have had a few in at work. All we do is strip and clean all the breaks and re copper grease them and 9/10 it usually does the trick. Its worth a go mate
