I have finally said goodbye to my caddy NSU?? 2976

NSU?? Caddytrailerd

Dans van now with cracked light from caddy bumper NSU?? 298631 No sharp corners for us!

I loved the caddy but the time had come for it to go.

So I did a swap for a small rear engined air-cooled VAG car from the early seventies that isn't a beetle! Shocked

It's a 1971 NSU Prinz 4. 600cc of sheer power!
VW took them over in 1969 and killed off these in 1973 because they were too much of a rival to the beetle according to wiki. NSU became part of what is now Audi and this is a predecessor to the Audi 50/mk1 polo!

Posh interior!

This is where all the power comes from!

Thanks a lot to Dan for the hair raising trailering. It was scary when it started snaking down dodgy fen roads with drainage ditches either side! geek We'll put the Caddy the other way around next time so the weight isn't at the back.

The plans for NSU at the moment are to get it on the road and see if I can get 14" fuchs to fit under the tiny arches! clown

Cheers for the comments. I wasn't sure if they would be positive because it's a bit weird!

It doesnt have a beam but a beetle frame head could be welded in for a beam Question Under the bonnet I can imagine some bigger tubs Razz
It has swing axles on the rear so it would get camber like a beetle when lowered but it has struts aswell so could chop the springs or get shorter ones.
All ideas who knows.

I tried a 14" fuchs on the front this afternoon but the wheel studs are too thin. I would need to press the studs out of the drums, drill them out and press bigger diameter studs in. It's got nice finned drums like a porsche 356! Fitting wheels is what I want to do first and some tidying of rusty bits so they don't come through badly.

Testing a fuchs earlier while it's still on the trailer!

NSU?? Prinzfuchs

Smaller tyres needed I think. It's still jacked up here.

Some photoshops of plan. Will it happen? I need money to buy wheels

Both of my k plates

NSU?? IMG_7934

I got some wheels for the Prinz today at Dubfreeze from Kinky Mick.

They are NSU RO80 fuchs. They are the same size as the 14" fuchs I tested on it before but slightly different. Ive got to work out how to fit them now. If I can find some wheel nuts the right size I could put collars over the studs so they fit the holes in the wheels. If not it's a case of changing the studs to thicker ones but Id rather not incase it rubs and I want to put the 12s on for an MOT.

NSU?? IMG_9631

I got some stickers with them.

Notice the orange beetles back wheels are the same in the 1st pic. That's what swing axles do when they have been jacked up. They stay like that until you roll the car forward. It's also why they get negative camber when lowered Thumbs up
