PostSubject: Ipod connection   Ipod connection EmptyWed May 05 2010, 09:43

Im wanting to use my ipod in my mk4 golf but can only find leads that take place of the cd changer. Obviously i dont want to lose the cd changer but want to be able to use both. Is this possible with the standard changer and player.

I hope that made sense

Cheers Luke

you mean the ones with the headphone jack?

They play the music, but the quality will be awful.

Cassettes with iPod lead suck. Dont even go near them.
There are 2 different cables you can use with your standard headunit.

1 alows you to play your iPod through the CD changer port much like an aux in.
The other plugs into your CD changer port, but powers your iPod and allows you to change tracks using the headunit as opposed to using the iPod.

I had one of the CD changer port to Aux in (headphone socket style) that I used to use with my iPod. Couldnt fault it. Only problem was that using an iPod touch to switch tracks whilst driving isnt the best thing to do.

You cant retain CD changer functionality if you want to use an iPod.
Buy yourself an aftermarket unit, or get a MK5 Golf headunit and heavily modify it to fit in the dash. They're the only options.

CD changer port to headphone jack is the one I used to have.
The quality was actually very good as it is a digital connection (cd changer port) to an RCA box, with a headphone port in.

And to be fair, if you're using standard speakers (or any of the ones that Halfords sell) then it doesnt matter what connection you're using as you wont notice it. Uprate your speakers and you will.

For my ipod and iphone, I have an aux lead for when Im in my cabrio,(sounds great)
I have an fm tuner wireless connector, (They are s**t-dont buy one).
I also bought one of them cassette leads for my I-pod when im in the mk3 golf, mine sounds great and I bought it off e-bay for less than £3.
I say for that money make your own mind up.
