Wet, wet, wet Empty
PostSubject: Wet, wet, wet   Wet, wet, wet EmptyTue Mar 16 2010, 11:14

OK so I'm getting pissed off now.

I posted a while ago about my car being damp on the floor.

Well when I switched the interior a couple of weeks ago, I decided to take the carpets up and check the damage... the sponge layer under the carpets is about 2 and a half inches thick and was totally saturated with water, there was altogether about 3 inches of water in the car. It's mostly in the front, except where it's spread to the back.

But I've taken the door cards out and the uhhhhm whatever the plastic sheeting on the door is called is s**t and needs replacing, but sat in my car while it had no seats in during a storm for like an hour and only like 3 drips came from the doors. So it's not that.

It seems to be coming in from right up the front of the footwells, like it's coming from under the bonnet, but I seriously cannot figure it out... has anyone had any similar problems and figured it out?

I refuse to take it to a garage just to have them look at it, charge me 100 and tell me they couldn't find the problem.

I want to fix it myself.

Please help :]

not sure about polos but im pretty sure most vw's have a drainage point on the bit between the bottom of the windscreen and under the bonnet(its name escapes me). It allows water to run down the inside of the arches, but if its blocked the water ends up inside. i know its pretty common on mk4s.

just a thought Wet, wet, wet Icon_biggrin

Awesome I'll check that out and google it and stuff. Could be blocked, as I do reckon there's a s**t load of leaves and other crap stuck all up inside my car, always get leaves blow through my air vents at the front.

does your car have a sunroof?

the drainage points on mk1 golf sunroofs always clog up and leak water into the cabin

Nope no sunroof, I wish it did have one though haha. It's definately coming in from right up in the footwells!

have you checked your heater matrix/pipes?

if theres a split/blocked pipe it could leak all over the floor

I'd go for as other said look around the scuttle area sounds like the drainage is blocked and the water is running in through the inlet for the heater system

If you have lots of leaves and nefarious crap in ya scuttle it will block the two drain holes (one each end) thus when it persists down you get wet smelly floors as it cant drain away so it slops about and comes in through anywhere it can.

You need to get ya marigolds on love and clear out ya drainage gulley and rinse out ya pipes.

Top tip ... dont park under trees.
