Golf driver 1.6 1990 g plate ez engine,poor running ?

Right my mrs is having probs with her golf,feels like choke is sticking on,but it`s not,have put a new fuel pump on,blown and sucked the fuel lines,nice gob full of petrol so no prob there.
Recently had new plugs,dizzy cap and rotor,air filter,fuel filter.
She said it takes ages to accelerate,and is running rough,i took plugs out other day,and they were all sotty,and it`s using a bit too much fuel.
Any ideas peeps,it`s done,(according to the clock 110 thou,and has a crappy pooberg carb,please give me some more ideas,as the nagging is doing my head in !!

check the seal/rubber that the carb sits on cuz it could be split

sounds EXACTLY what was wrong with my mk2 driver, it was a dodgy thermastat in the end

Cheers guy`s,have since told her to stop using the waxstat,and it`s been ok.
Will check the gasket,as there is quite a bit of movement in the carb,the rubber bung and bolt that holds the filter on is also missing,so it`s cable tied on,which is prob not helping either.
She is doin a lot of miles in it,chelmsford twice a week,then london once a week,then feck knows how many miles around here,it get`s a lot of use
