| I'm finally getting round to doing the big jobs on my Golf so a though I'd start up a thread on the progress. I bought it last year off Ben (bridgedubber) after playing around with a few Golfs for the last year or so. It is solid underneath and drives and runs superbly so thought it would be a good base to start with. When I bought it, it was in need of some love so over the last 6 months I changed a few bits and pieces. Only the boring stuff to start with - a couple of services, new water pump, thermostat, cambelt so its all ready to go. It's just had it's MOT which it sailed through so now is the time for some bigger changes. I've been running it on a set of wheels that I had last year which are 17"s so I've just bought the hockenhiems off of Phil to soften it up a bit. It's in bits at the moment because I wanted to get the bodywork started so the wheels will get a refurb before they go on. The drivers side had had a repair at some point but it looked a bit worse for wear and the lacquer had started to to completely flake off. While I was there I thought I'd better tidy up the front wings so the prep work began. After numerous hours of stopper and sanding it was ready for a bit of primer. Then came the blocking to get the panel completely flat and ready for paint. Check out the Diablo on the wall. This was the finish out of the gun so it is in need of flatting and polishing which I'm in the process of doing. Hopefully it will get put back together this week - I need to finish off destripping the the panels, paint the wing mirrors and fit the trims back on with new clips and plugs.

I was in a Chrysler main dealer last week and you could literally see through the paint. I want it looking as mint as I can get it so i don't mind a bit of flatting down. I would like to take all the credit but I had a lot of help from a mate. | |

| Time to put it back together but before that happened I wanted to do the wing mirrors. They are all on and the interior is now back together. Jobs for today will be finishing removing the red stripes around the car and refitting the trims back on, then finish taking off the the rest of the silver strip. The last time it snowed I hit a curb so now my drivers side front wheel sits strange in the arch so I need to find out whats bent. The Hockenhiems are now going on because I need to sell my other wheels to raise some dollars. (Will be on ebay and in the for sale section later if anyone is interested). The wheels will come back off hopefully this week for a refurb so will update when done. | |

| Apart from pottering about and getting things a bit tidier i've now got round to sorting the engine. I wanting to do a conversion but not go too mad so all i'm doing is putting a 2.0 bottom end in. After a couple of hours: The block has been completely degreased and is all clean ready for paint. I'm not doing too much work to the engine apart from a re-build. it sounded sweet when I bought it but I'm going to put all new bearings in. The head will have the same treatment plus some porting and polishing work. I'm hoping to get the block painted later today so will update with the pics. | |
