I have a mk1 with a 1.3 mk2 engine and it runs fine for a short time, then it will cut out on me. We think it might be icing up, but just wondered if anyone had a any answers for me?
cheers will!

if it starts and drives fine then cuts outs at cruising speed then yes i'd say carb icing mate.

some people forget to replace the flexi pipe from the heat shield on the exhaust manifold to the airbox. They need warm air to stop them freezing.

I bet when it does cut out, a few minutes it will start again

Cheers lads for the advice!
The heat shield is in place and flap to allow warm air to carb is open, but it still cuts out at cruising speed after 15-20 miles of running. could it be crap in the carb?

It's pretty likely, fuel filler neck traps water, rusts through, leaves flakes in the tank which make their way in to the fuel pump & carb which kills off the fuel delivery at higher revs.

Mine refused to idle once the car was warm. Have a reach under the wheel arch (might need to jack up the car) and have a feel of the top of the filler neck. If it feels crusty then take the rear bench out, remove the circular metal cover, fuel level sender and have a peek in the tank for flakes.

Don't think I've experienced carb icing myself so I don't really know what it's like, have heard it's more likely it's humid out, so if it does it in really dry weather, I reckon it's more likely to be fuel delivery.
