PostSubject: Modules?   Modules? EmptySat Dec 05 2009, 11:36

On the 2001 Bora im using at the moment, the central locking, e/windows and boot release are only working when they want to and there is a ticking noise sounds like its coming from the steering column. The garage has said its a module and are getting quotes form vindis for me. Does anyone know if a second hand module can be used? does it have to be coded to the car? Anyone had a similar problem.
I dont like main dealer rates!!

sounds like the convenience system control unit that your refering to? a 2nd hand unit can be used and might even work without coding depending on vehicle spec it was taken from but might be best to have it coded to make sure. only takes 5 minutes so shouldnt cost much.

i'd be careful when dealing with central locking faults. the main control unit is in the drivers door and combined with the window motor, water gets in the door and corrodes the terminals resulting in a new control unit and door loom. first generation Skoda Octavia's used to suffer with it quite badly.

if you can, whip the door panel off and unplug the window motor. if its wet and green i'd ignore the convenience control unit diagnosis.

i may be completely wrong tho......Modules? Icon_redface

Quick Update, the Bora has had a 2nd hand "convenience system control unit" thingymajig fitted. £58 delivered. It then had to be coded to the car and keys by Vindis £40+vat.

The interior lights, e/windows and r/c/locking now work, apart from the tailgate. Everytime you close the boot, it reopens electrically. Can only keep it shut by using the key manually. Checked all the wiring and no problems.

Customer is wanting to collect the car tomorrow. Any ideas???

Has this got that stupid electronic button on the boot that you press to get in? If so my audi did the same thing kept unlocking all the time and like you could only keep it shut by manually locking with the key.

It was the button at fault on mine, took it apart and cleaned it up seems to work ok now. Has only been a week or so since doing it mind..
