| those of you that spoke to me at the last meet probably heard me wanting to swap my ibiza for another mk2 golf, well, I finally did! chuffed to bits with too! hope the new owner of the ibiza likes that too! it was an awsome driving machine, but ultimately, for me it only ever the next best thing to a mk2 gti! so here she is! I gave her a full check over to see what was what and the first thing I came across was a totally blocked oil breather system! the air filter was soaked in oil. amazingly the car still went as it should and ran fine! air filter, luckily it's the same size as the one's for an ibiza so I stuck in the nearly new standard one from that! this is the pipe that runs from the engine block to the airbox! a quick trip to Not-Escorts in Eaton Socon got me a clean one. while I was there I cleaned up the whole intake system, took the throttle body off and cleaned it, polished it up internaly and rounded off the leading edge of the butterfly a little (tends to "perk up" the throttle response a little) overall though it's a very clean, straight car. it handles well, the steering is nice and tight and responsive and it's eerily quiet after the madness of a partly stripped out ABF powered Ibiza! a refreshing change! next on the list is to get some new plastic arches and side skirts, also going to get a set of crystal foglights and change the backbox for a DTM type.

| yeah looked at it and went but all seems well in that department! cleaned it all out and it runs even better! there is a crazy little diaphram thing that sits under the intake pipe just behind the airbox, that seemed to be gunked up to the point where it stopped working and perhaps that caused everything else to block up. | |

| went to not-escorts on friday and bought; lower front splitter unabused airbox standard fit rear speakers (mine had none!) the missing bit of side trim from the rear passenger side since fitting the airbox and a new standard air filter the car seems to be going much better! goes like a rocket but hardly makes any noise at all! no induction noise whatsoever and cos the exhaust system has 4 silencers that's pretty quiet too! so now i've ended with an all black stealthy quiet car that goes really well! gave her a bit of a "cheat wash" with some armour-all easy wipe thingies! this will probably devide opinions but I fancied putting a stripe around the grill like a standard one and then one down the sides to try and "break up" all the black! | |

| i've got my eye on some 15" sebring on the gaybay at the moment. failing that a lad at work might be selling some 7 X 15" bbs rims from his E36 318. either way i'll be painting them a dark gun metal or similar. the red pinstripe would look gay with silver wheels and I'm quite liking the dark stealth look! | |

| heard a rattle on the way back from tesco's and literally 30 seconds later the engine seized up! plenty of good oil in it, cambelt intact, plenty of coolant and no explosion of oil anywhere so no idea what the hell happened!! trying to find a replacement engine but in the meantime I thought i'd start taking the old one out! this was after 30 min's with a bike multitool!!! (topeak alien for any of you bikers!) then a couple of hours work today had all the fluids drained and the k-jet disconnected. tried turning the engine over with a knuckle bar (spark plugs removed) and it was very very stiff! looks like this now! getting there though, I might be able to borrow an engine crane to make things a bit easier! | |

| Sounds like a oil pump failure. had the same symtoms with an 2E/PB combo in my first caddy. Ya doing a decent job with a Topeak multi tool though Have you sourced a replacement engine then? | |

| depends on whether I can haggle bridgdubber down a bit! been offered a few more for around the 100 quid mark but they're either too far away (for some bizzarre reason most are in scotland!) or they're a bit of an unknown and haven't ran for a while! even not-escorts had nothing! strongly considering just throwing a pb lump in there! or failing that buying that cheap red 5 door and breaking mine for spares! | |

| It's gripped, it's sorted! found a replacement kr bottom end! 150 quid delivered to my door with few new bits including new oil pump! (80 quid on it's own!) and a 90 day warranty! I take it when fitting my head to this new bottom end I should use a new head gasket? | |

| yes definately use a new headgasket. Get the ABF headgasket its a multi layer steel gasket and is much stronger than the fibre ones. Also dont forget to fit a new cambelt too. You might need more then just your bike multi tool though | |

| I'll get todays pics up when I have some strenght back in my arms! but today I did;
unbolted the downpipe (fookin mission!) all ancilliaries removed removed PAS pipes, tank ect
found out that if the oil pump hadn't failed then the cambelt was just about to snap anyway! it had a dirty great tear in it! i'm at the stage now where all I need to do is remove the headbolts (could I borrow a torx bit from someone for this?) undo the driveshafts/engine mounts and haul it all out! due to the very (none existant now i've bought a bottom end) tight budget could i get away with my existing head bolts? or is that asking for trouble? | |

| 100% dont reuse the headbolts mate, they arent very much at all from GSF. They probably will snap if you try and torque them up properly or wont seal the head down right if you reuse them | |

| I tripped over the answer! I bought a new cv joint for my old 8v ibiza gti and ended up not eeding it, I phoned up car-parts direct and haggled! managed to get an exchange for a new cambelt, new head bolts and a new head gasket (took your advice and got the abf one!) my bottom end should be here today and the new gaskets/bolts should be here next week. IF by some sheer miracle:scratch: it all goes to even just a little bit according to plan I may even have it back on the road for the next meet in cambridge!! | |
