in the quest to make the polo even lighter im thinking of getting rid of all the glass (apart from the windscreen).

does anyone know if there are any kits about, or anywhere i can get perspex, preferably cut to size and shape?

plus does anyone know if mk4 polo rear windows are structural? i.e. can i just rivet perspex windows in and use silicone to seal it, or would i need to properly bond them in (done the proper job on an aircraft canopy and it was a pain in the arse!)?

cheers all!

Not sure of any kits about mate, there must be a supplyer somewhere.

Wouldnt go with perspex as its pretty brittle and in a crash will just turn into large shards. Best of with Polycarbonate as it wont crack when you rivet it.

The rears are not structural but i would bond and rivet them so you dont get a blow out.

Hope this helps!

Ran a mk1 granny with perspex from b&q many years ago just glued it into the rubber at the back n glued to the regulators in the side doors only problem was scratching ya couldnt see out the back on a sunny day ....mind you the car was chopped n the windows were only 12 inches high... Twisted Evil
I would go with poly too if i was gonna do it again... Smile

I was looking into this a while back for a trackday project. Look on the net as there is companies that supply rally and racing parts. You should be able to just buy polycarb in sheets from them.
