Mk2 misting up Empty
PostSubject: Mk2 misting up   Mk2 misting up EmptyThu Apr 12 2012, 20:58

Another new niggle developed, gotta love running a classic dub!

Golf has sat for a couple of weeks and now back on the road has started misting up ONLY when the blower is on warm/hot.
Runs fine and heater blows out nice toasty warm air but have to run it on cold to be able to see.
Seem to have developed a leak in the boot but the fogging up kicks in as soon as the heater is set to anything other than coldest setting, even after doing 20 miles so doesnt seem to be a likely cause.

Beginning to suspect the heater matrix but no obvious leaks in the footwell, anyone got any pointers?

Mine has developed the same problem! Can be rather annoying and dangerous at times. Have you noticed any leaks in the footwells at all?

The footwells don't always get wet. but they do smell of antifreeze which is a bigger give away.
Try touching the transmission tunnel under the heater area.
That's where it'll be wet if anywhere.

If you need the job doing , give me a bell my rates are pretty good and I've done this job a whole bunch of times.

Yes of course, but I don't drink.

You'd need to come to.me as all the tools are here.

Think Ive pretty much resigned myself to the fact its the heater matrix now.
Bro-in-law's a mechanic so we're gonna brave it ourselves thanks although any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Ive read that Mk3 matrix will fit but have found Mk2 units on VWHeritage for £20.

Will that do the job or is there a better option as far as you know?

Cheers

That'll do you fine, I've never known one explode which is why they say use Mk3 ones but they're all the same these days.
It's an old myth.
