PostSubject: I've killed my car!!!   Fri Nov 06 2009, 01:19

Had a bit of a water pump/ dashboard/ Head gasket problem in my beloved Mk1 Cabby on Saturday night!!!
Still every clowd has a silver lining & it just so happened that 'Breadvanman' was part way through his 2.0 16v Engine conversion on his Bready when we realised that without a major overhaul of the bay, there was no way that engine was gonna fit in his car!!! Lucky me!!!

So needless to say i've now got a bit of a project on the go!!!

The car got towed this morning in to the hands of Tinkler Brother in Ramsey and the new engine follows on saturday morning!!
Will try and get some photo's uploaded asap. & keep daily updates.

I spoke with Caddyrage yesterday about it & came to the decision that buying new was the way forward!! We couldn't find any second hand one's online and the project would have just stopped without it.

I'll have to agree with you there! Not sure my wallet does though!!
The way i see it, you may aswell replace as many bits for new as possible while the engine's out....could save a lot of agro and money in the long run!! Or thats what i keep telling the Mrs anyway.!
So far the new parts consist of:

16v Conversion Exhaust manifold
Clutch
Cam Belt
All new gaskets.

I did ask someone about a 4 branch on your behalf james as a guy i know is pulling his 16v out to fit a vr6 instead. He's keeping the 16v conversion for another mk1 so its probs a good job you ordered new as there hard to find used.

I seen the holes in the 8v block , front and back of number 1 chamber. Thats good going lol.
Nevermind, you'll soon have a respectable 160bhp under the bonnet soon

Yeah the holes are good ones!

Only a shame it's 160ish bhp with 16 valves :(

Had to laugh last night watching slips on sky...the guys racing a 1.6 honda civic against a mk2 golf 8v...the guy racing the civic said it was obvious they would win as they had 16 valves

I know i cant believe how much damage ive done!!! still it makes me feel a lot better about having to put the new engine in, as there really is no hope left for the old one now! although put a piece of glass on top and it could make a pretty wicked coffee table!!
