PostSubject: dead project all for sale   Wed May 13 2009, 21:06

Hello fellow dubbers,

I started this just about over year ago and anit made much progess apart from ripping 2 oh 3 cars apart lol!
Due 2 one thing or another i anit had the motivation to do it but now due 2 one thing or another im feeling it so im going for it just need a job to fund it lol
so im doing what i can without the need for cash.

i got a mk3 vr6 £250 donor head gasket gone(all sorted now)
got a mk2 gti for the swap which i swapped with my polo coupe gt
but it was twisted somehow only found out once i had stripped it
now i got my mk2 golf £150 which the head gasket was gone, but didnt matter just ripped out the engine and skipped it at my old job lol!!!

the vr6

the twisted mk2

the mk2 reciever

Right thats the intro!
First of all just alot of stripping

i pulled it out all on the subframe and wheel so i could move it on my own! damn its heavy!

and move it i did!lol

Not long after this i stripped the mk2

enrolled the help of my hippy looking house mate(lacrone)

once i got in side this and stripped it i found that it was twisted or something the brackets which the seats bolt to were all out of shape

then i got the mk2 which is getting the engine

Stripped it!

Anyone for mayo??

things slowed down after this and i just did random stuff as and when i felt like it

stripped the loom and fusebox out the vr6

Had to number them all cos i would forget which goes where

cleaned up some bit and painted them
before

cleaned

After

more bits

I moved back to mepal and didnt really do much got some one to weld up the holes in the bay but they aint done a very good job. i started to grind the welds back and werent to please with some of it.

i fitted the mk3 gear stick, had to make a budget build bracket to get it fitted and had to make the hole a bit bigger.

i have hammerited this so it dont rust of to fast

I also got the mounting bar bolted in but not real sure if it in the exact right place but its only bolted and can be moved up or down if need be.

Took the windscreen out today and finished cleaning the metal from the bulk head

Thats it for now and hopefully the update pics will keep coming quite quickly, hope i anit bored no one!!!:sleep:lol!!

oh yea and i have filled a couple of holes where the side trim was and debadged the rear

and had try to fit the mk3 dash but i think it has gone wrong hence the need for a replacement(thanks goes to mik at mvdevelopment if he is still holding one for me)

just a few things i done on thursday just filled a few holes gave them a quick sand and painted over them,no need to get a super finish as they wont be seen.

i painted the chassis legs with some one coat brush on body sealer,it was well thick, went ok but now its dry it dont look to good with all the brush strokes

started to put a bit of filler in the bay but anit sanded it yet and need to refine my technic of putting it on lol...anyway thank god for sand paper!!

i got this solid engine mount from a couple of lads from the mk2vr6 forum who took a mk2 solid mount and redesigned it and made one to fit the mk2 vr6 converstion

the cat showed its love for the new spoiler!!lol

What front crossmember are you using to mount the radiator? From what i can gather on mk2vr6 a corrado one is ideal. Also, regarding the gear stick ect, i'm assuming the vr is cable shift, did you litterally transplant the whole gear changing system from the mk3 into the mk2, so all of the gear stick ect ect? And finally what are you doing with the clutch, I know most people put in a hydraulic pedal box but when I do mine I don't want to lol so are you using one of those cable conversion thingys?

Cheers

there are loads of info and how to on the mk2 vr forum mate i basically did my whole conversion from following that. I can vouch for the cable conversions being crap and heavy in my opinion to a hydraulic clutch. You dont even need to change the cross member if you dont want to. I made 2 small brackets to mount the mk3 rad further forward and lower down so it sat under the front crossmember

i just put the whole gear stick and cables off the mk3 in to the mk2 and im gonna use the hydo clutch cos as "tiz" mention i too have read that the cable converstion is heavy and as for the rad i wasnt sure what to use as i thought the mk3 rad looked to big

tiz u got any pic of how u mounted your rad?and what fans did u use cos i have read the people just cut down the plastic around the fans of the mk3 to fit them on the mk2

oh and im using the mk2 crossmembers

Cheers guys, i've been doing a lot of reading on mk2vr6 lol so i think i've got the general gist of it, theres just certain things that i'm not to sure about, such as wiring, the clocks, the driveshafts for 4 stud ect ect. As for the radiator someone said on mk2vr6 you can use the corrado vr6 front crossmember and radiator and it's like a perfect fit, you just have to use the hose's off of the 2.8 'cus the 2.9s slightly different.

yeah if you want no fabrication just bolt on parts you can use a rado rad as it is all the same height as mk2 stuff etc.

I had to do a bit of chopping on the front crossmember mate to get the dual fan setup to fit in there right as well as quite a bit of chopping the plastic too, i made a bodge of it for a start to get it to a show then i did it properly i'll see if i can dig the pics out for you.
