hmmm it did that when i had it but as i had that stupid air filter on i assumed carb icing... When it happened to me once it wouldnt restart i got out and tapped the coil and it restarted which i thought was odd. Always meant to replace the coil but just forgot as sometimes it had the problem sometimes it didnt...

Coil has been replaced, so as the ally hose from the manifold...it now appears to be the fuel pump, but i will find out tonight when i fit a new one

our survey says....eh eh...it is not the fuel pump Sad nor is it the rotor arm, or dizzy cap unless they are the same ones that i had on it before!!!

God Damn it!!!! I am getting a little annoyed with it now...it doesn't help that i was looking at engine conversions for it either Wink

have you tried running a low pressure line down the fuel lines with the cap off to clear any little blockages that may be there from a past rusty fuel neck? Common mk1 problem.

if he didnt take the feed hose off of the pump and run a low pressure compressed air line down that hose then try that. He probably just made a vacuum to suck the fuel back would be better to blow down the line. If i was a betting man i would say its down to the rusty filler neck as when i bought the car he offered me a filler neck with it as well that he said he bought for it. I had that off him.. well i still have it, so i bet its got a rusty filler neck and the crap has got down the lines, have you tried cleaning the carb out?

If its none of that then i would personally say you need to get a weber carb for it and bin that pierburg.

have you tried taking the top off the carb and cleaning out the fuel bowl in side as gunk usually builds up at the bottom and clogs up the jets. Had the same thing happen on my beetle and gave the exact same symptoms.

You can get webers from ebay or ask about on here, edition38 etc.. Shouldnt cost too much. No more than £50 really? But they make quite a bit of difference to economy AND power.

Will have a look at the fuel bowl tonight...if it's not that then i will be taking the fuel tank out and cleaning it at the weekend...went to tesco last night, not much fuel in the jetta, and it took me 40 mins to do 8 miles!!! ran better when i had put more fuel in so could possibly be something in the tank. Is there any kind of filter/strainer at the outlet for the tank?

Out of interest where did you get the fine mesh filter from?

I took out the sender last night, and the filter element wasn't really dirty...so i looked back at the carb, took it off, and it looked like there were some splits in the carb mount on the manifold, so am picking one up today...fingers crossed Smile

Also going to order the weber carb...i may as well now i have started!!
