 Cambelt for my hybrid gti engine

I want to change the cambelt on my mk1 gti, but i'm not sure which cambelt i need as its got a audi 80 2l bottom end and a 1.8 8v golf mk1 gti head can anyone shed any light on this?

The audi had a short block so a standard mk1 gti belt will be the 1 to go for fella

they belts normall have a size written on them eg 136x26 so 136 teeth and 36 in width, have a look and do some cross referencing at your local motorist centre

Thanks guys!cheers I'll cross reference the belt markings just to be sure and if in doubt i'll just go for the gti belt.

im under the impression that you buy the belt for the block.

im putting a 2.0 bottom end on a mk2 and have been told to buy the belt for the block

but the block that i am using is a tall block, so on the otherhand lee (caddyrage) sounds about right

Yeah you always buy the belt that matches the block cause the head size never changes just the height of the block
